Description:

A rare broad, evergreen shrub with narrow, bright green leaves with a pale midrib native to the Azores where it is almost extinct. The lower leaves turn cherry red in autumn. Pale green, honey-scented, flowerheads develop in late spring and early summer, followed by green, knobbly, pea-sized fruit. The milky sap can be an irritant.

Site and Care:

Grow in well-drained, light soil in full sun. Cut back in spring to promote new growth. Propagate by seed, or take basal cuttings in spring or early summer.
